"Let's Boycott Cow Meat, Boko Haram May Use Cattle As Suicide Bombers" -Soyinka

Literary Icon and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka yesterday raised the alarm that herdsmen in the country were going about with conqueror mentality, suggesting that there is a movement to enslave the entire nation.

According to him, he returned from a trip outside the country to see that his sanctuary in Abeokuta, Ogun State had been violated and this time, the herders not only went through his abode but took their cows to his door step.

Soyinka who spoke at Freedom Square, Lagos yesterday expressed worry that the government had left the citizenry to protect themselves, and called for a summit of all stakeholders involving herders, cattle owners, farmers and tourists “to chart a way forward in stopping the threat to lives and rapes that the herders spread,” pointing out that the mentality of the herdsmen had changed from the peaceful posture they used to adopt.

The Laureate said the fact that Boko Haram could use Chibok girls as suicide bombers underscored the danger and possibility of the herders using cows for suicide bombing, insisting that the society had to take actions that would force the government to act consciously in checking the menace of armed herdsmen.

“I see no other interpretation concerning these events, I have reported to the police and they have records. They are camping all over the place and they are not camping as peaceful neighbours but as conquerors, that is what is happening here and that is why I use the word enslavement.

“It seems to me that there is a movement to enslave the citizens of this nation wherever they happen to be, they show they are the masters of the land. There is an aggression, that aggression use to be in the forest. I told you before that there are certain parts of the forest that when we go hunting we no longer venture because of what we have seen unless we go enmasse and equipped more than for killing sparrows.

“But when cattle come right into your door step, I think we are in a very different territory. I think one has the right to assume that any cow that comes to one’s door step is a potential suicide bomber and to take preemptive action to ensure that our homes are not turned into Maiduguri. The leadership of this nation is taking this menace far too lightly.

“It is a year ago since I read that speech when the President promised that cattle assault will soon be a thing of the past. Is it going to happen in the next six months? Will the police still be busy chasing kidnappers, soldiers trying to preempt the remnants of the degraded Boko Haram? Is that pledge going to be fulfilled in the next six months since that speech was read?, He queried.

Stating further, “I am not going to dramatise the situation. What matters is that my home is being invaded as are the farms of my neighbours. Some are erecting barriers, things we have never seen in that area in the past since I began living there.

“There have been clashes by the way; there have been clashes between the farmers and the herdsmen. The police have had to intervene couples of time, chase them out, they returned, this time they beat a path to my doorstep. Let us not exaggerate but let us be sanguine about intrusions like this. These people have no respect for human beings and who use human beings including some of our Chibok girls as suicide bombers, why shouldn’t they decide to use cattle as suicide bombers?

“It is not an exaggerated way of thinking, it is accumulation of many things which we have been undergoing in this country not just in my area, in Anambra, Edo, Benue, where herdsmen are being appeased not to kill, not to destroy and what I am looking at in our neighbourhood are tentative polls to see how far these people can go.”

He said the type of dialogue he was advocating wasn’t for the creation of grazing route as it would cause more problems in the country but one where the security agencies would be about their duties while the leadership of the country would make it clear that no herdsman would commit crime and escape punishment.

“In any case, should we wait for another six months that no more Ogun State farmers are killed, Edo farmers are killed, their children raped, beheaded for going to their farms? Will the next meeting be like the one which was held in Benue over a year ago when the herdsmen actually arrived with AK 47 and were not disarmed and were allowed to leave with them?

“This is what is known as impunity, it is actually enslavement, poking a finger at the citizens of this nation. The crisis is very real; it is futile and suicidal to pretend otherwise.

“Some action is required to call leadership to order; maybe we should have a day of beef boycott, find other means of satisfying our protein and I know that vegetarians will be very happy.”

Reminded the issue was not a local one he said: “The threat is not a local one, it is not even a national one. If you remember a meeting I spoke of which followed some massacres in the north, the delegates admitted that they came from outside, all the way from Senegal or somewhere and said they had come and killed to avenge the death of one of their own people who had been killed so they mobilised across the West African region to come and avenge the death of one person.

He also condemned the hoarding of information on President Muhammadu Buhari’s health status which he likened to the way President Donald Trump of America hoarded his tax returns, insisting that as a public officer and leader, he had the obligation to let people know reality of his health to avoid speculations.

ourt Sacks Sam Saba, CCB Chairman, Board

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja has sacked the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) Sam Saba and nine other members of the organisation’s board.

Justice Nyako in a judgment Friday held that the five-year tenure of the CCB board expired on April 2015.

The judgment was on a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/411/2016 filed by a group – Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International (KGRFI) led by Okere Nnamdi.

Justice Nyako was of the view that by virtue of section 155 (1) (c) and Paragraph 1, Part 1, Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Saba and others, all of whom were appointed in 2010, were only entitled to stay in office for five years.

The judge declined to issue an order compelling the President to remove and replace Saba and the nine other board members, as prayed by the plaintiff.

She however, directed the AGF to advise the President on the state of the tenure of members of the CCB board.

Justice Nyako particularly granted the prayer for “a declaration of the honourable court that the tenure of office of the Chairman and nine other members of the Code of Conduct Bureau has elapsed since April 2015; in view of section 155 (1) (c) and Paragraph 1, Part 1, Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

The judge granted partially, the two other main reliefs in which the plaintiff sought a declaration that the AGF had failed in his responsibility by not advising the President on the expiration of the tenure of the Chairman and members of the CCB.

Justice Nyako directed the AGF to give the President the needed advice on the issue.

The judge declined to grant the consequential reliefs sought by the plaintiff, seeking orders of mandamus compelling the President to remove and appointment replacement for Saba and others.

Justice Nyako said such reliefs seeking an order of mandamus could only brought under an application for judicial review not under an originating summons as filed in the case.

The judge also rejected the plaintiff’s the prayer for an order of mandamus directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission “to immediately arrest, investigate and prosecute the Chairman and nine other members of the CCB” for allegedly pertuating themselves in office fraudulently.

Defendants in the suit were President Muhammadu Buhari, the AGF and the CCB.

You Cannot Break Into My House And Go Free – Jonah Jang Tells EFCC

Daily Post
Former Plateau State Governor, Jonah David Jang, on Thursday raised the alarm over an alleged plot by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to invade his house in search of looted funds.Speaking during a Town Hall meeting with his constituents in Jos, the Senator representing Plateau North insisted that he had no looted fund in his house. The Senator however, warned that anybody who breaks into his house would repair any damaged part of it.Jang said, “Somebody came to my house and told me that there is plan to raid the houses ofall former PDP Governors. My house is very open for them to come and search, but I want to say this to the hearing of the public, if anybody breaks my house, they will hear us up to supreme court.“You cannot break into my house and go free, you must come and repair it, if they think I hide money in the ceiling or anywhere, they should have equipment that can trace the money, but if they come to start breaking walls, they will repair my house because they will not find a kobo, I didn’t steal money.”The former governor also alleged that his successor, Governor Simon Lalong has vowed to take him to jail for corruption but he will not find him guilty of any financial mess that will land him in prison.“Lalong is investigating my Government to make sure he jail me, they have investigated and did not find anything, they have gone to EFCC nothing, they have gone to ICPC nothing, they are still back to EFCC again.“Former President, Goodluck Jonathan had asked me where I got money to execute projects across the state but my pain is that the present government is not asking this question, they are only interested in soiling my name but what I did in eight years will vindicate me,” Jang said.

"Oba Akiolu Didn't Snub Ooni Of Ife" - White Cap Chief

The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu has cleared the air on the video in the social media being misconstrued for Oba of Lagos snubbing the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at a public function in Lagos. One of the white cap chiefs, Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, Opeluwa Onido of Lagos, said the Lagos Monarch did not ignore Ooni of Ife at the public function as being misconceived by people. He said Oba Akiolu’s response to Ooni is theculturally acclaimed way of greeting by a monarch in Lagos. He added that the Lagos King is basically trying to revive the culture and tradition of ancient Lagos which is peculiar to the State.Other tribes also have their peculiar ways of greeting. “The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies, ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos. If Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni”, he said.In his words, “there is no misunderstanding between both highly revered Monarchs in Yoruba Land”. According to him, the relationship between both Yoruba kings is peaceful and mutual. “Oba Akiolu was well represented at the coronation of Ooni of Ife,which attested to the fact that he does not disregard the office of Ooni Adeyeye.Chief Ajose said Oba Akiolu had waited till this time to react to the issue because he had to meet with other chiefs in the palace and meet minds before addressing the public on the matter.“There is no sentiment in the culture of Lagos. As we met it that is the way we are doing it. Kabiesi Oba Akiolu is trying to bringback the old pattern, the old culture we have left behind”“What happened that day was wrongly speculated by the social media to disrupt peace and order and misinterpret Oba Akiolu’s action”“We just want to appeal to the social media to stop spreading wrong information. They should try and understand the reason behind every action carried out most especially by traditional rulers”“Yoruba has a very rich culture. There is no quarrel between the Oba of Lagos and Ooni of Ife”

EFCC’s propaganda may trigger crisis in Nigeria —NNSG

Nigerian National Summit Group, NNSG, has kicked against what it described as the growing pattern of self-serving propaganda tacticsbeing deployed by government officials and organs, warning that it could trigger social unrest nationwide. In a statement by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Tony. Uranta, NNSG threw its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, urging that the war must be non-selective and follow the rule of law, citing the recent losses by the Federal Government in four major court cases as proof that trial by media cannot be a substitute for thorough investigations and properly prosecuted cases. He said: “Trial by media, including the recent propaganda deployments by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have not only been too loosely woven around unverified facts, but have even calculatedly encouraged libelous falsehoods, while inflaming publicpassion.”The group’s scribe noted that “the rush, by the EFCC, for example, to the media,  the putative discoveries of humongous amounts of allegedly looted monies, without first ascertaining their ownership, smacks of professional impropriety, especially considering how many now obviously innocent individuals have had their names and integrity at least passively impugned via nigh-libelous association with said sums, by the anti-corruption agency.”EFCC operatives“Without attempting to hold brief for Ms. Mo Abudu, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, or Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, one can guess that unless the EFCC speedily offers them very public apologies, the stigma created by the media outcry, that wrongly linked them to the apartment in which the funds were discovered, may neverbe lived down by them. And, now that we learned that the NIA had immediately claimed ownership of the apartment and funds, one wonders in whose interest it was to ignore this and still allow for the growth of malicious public and media speculation. Even now,the uncalled-for publicity as to who the real owners of the apartments in the complex is, is distasteful and dangerous,” he said.Calling on government agencies and the media be careful, he said “In future, before carelessly broadcasting sensational information, so as not to become the cause of a violent national social upheaval by misled Nigerians who are already on edge and frustrated with the status quo during this recession.“The NNSG further calls on members of the Nigerian public and all law enforcement agents toalso be on the alert for criminals that may attempt to impersonate the security agencies so as to gain forced, or coerced, illegal entry into innocent individuals’ homes, offices, and other premises.“The NNSG gives notice that it willdeploy the Freedom of Information, FOI,  Act to demand the EFCC immediately obeys Mr. President’s instruction, given a couple of weeks ago, that the anti-graft body tread the natural path of transparency and accountability, by urgently producing an Interim Audit Reportof all monies recovered by the agency, to date, beginning from the tenure of the former EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.”

If Buhari fails; all of us have failed– Dogara

Vanguard
Speaker of the House of  Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said that if president Buhari fails that all of us ( government officials) have failed. He made the remark in Abuja with newsmen ‘NIGERIA NOW Magazine’ when asked  about his greatest challenge since he became Speaker.Yakubu DogaraAccording to him, “I tell people that one of the things God has developed real well in me is to remove fear from me, I fear nothing.”“The only thing that frightens me is if this Eighth Assembly which, by virtue of the grace of God, I have been called to lead, is unableto leave landmark achievements; that is what bothers me and prevents me from sleeping. At times, I begin to think about what it is that we have achieved, done wrong or could have done better? What is the next line of things we can do for the betterment of the lives and living conditions of our people?…..This is going to be 2 years, what can we really say we have done that has bettered the lot of Nigerians? What will be our place when the history of this country is written?”“Those are the issues that preventone from sleeping, really, as against political battles with individuals or thinking about next elections – those are not the issues at all.“I bother a lot about where we are leading this House to and what it is we can achieve in both parliament and in government, because we are running the same government. If Buhari fails; all of us have failed, because it is one government and we cannot extricate ourselves.”“Sometimes I sit down, craft memos by myself and take it to the Executive; it is not my responsibility, the government has its own advisers, but I fear a lot about the place this government will occupy in history. All of us will be involved in that history, none of us will run away whether you just a member, a leader, a Chairman of a Committee, whoever you are it is our government, it doesn’t even matter which political party you belong to, it is one government and we are all involved. So the point is what is the legacy we are leaving behind? What are we achieving? That’s the thing that gives me nightmares sometimes.”he said.

Nigerian man arrested for duping American banks of over $100,000 using fake identities

NBC News
A Nigerian man who allegedly duped a number of banks out of more than $100,000 faced a federal judge last Friday, April 21, after being arrested on April 10 by agents from the Department of Homeland Security and charged on four federal criminal charges.Opeyemi Abdulahi Orekan, resident of Rhode Island was involved in an organized fraud ring that used fake passports from Nigeria and Ghana and fraudulent identities to defraud a number of banks out of tens of thousands of dollars. The federal government is charging him with bank fraud, passport fraud, identity theft and access device fraud.Investigators say Orekan used nine different identities, including a number of passports from Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana, to open bank accounts at a number of bank branches including Bank of America, Webster Bank and Santander to deposit counterfeit checks and then withdraw bank funds. Counterfeit checks from NRG Residential Solar Solutions, the VikingCorporation and Bosch were deposited into accounts, according to the affidavit.Orekan would then allegedly send the funds to an individual in Nigeria. The transactions occurred at a number of bank branches in Johnston, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Providence and Warwick. Bank America reported nearly $37,000in losses from at least one of the accounts and another $26,000 from another one of Orekan’s accounts. Santander reported a near $20,000 loss in connection with Orekan. He also allegedly used fake identities to open accounts at TD Bank, Wells Fargo and Chase Bank."Orekan has been engaged in lengthy pattern of fraud that has been perpetuated across at least 10 different financial institutions," says Keith Holleran, a special agent with the Dept. of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), in an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Providence.Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Vilker told the court that investigators have gathered a number of records and evidence including passports that were found in a ceiling crawl space which, he said, has made their case stronger. A bag filled with passports was also found in an old, rolled-up carpet found by the property manager of one of the apartments where Orekan resided. That's when the property manager contacted the FBI.Forensic tests of the passports determined that two Republic of Nigeria passports were altered and two Republic of Ghana passports were counterfeit. Four additional US admission stamps, machine readable visas adn two Ghana drivers licenses were also tested and determined to be counterfeit."He has a contact in Africa that is sending him these passports," Vilker told Magistrate Judge Patricia Sullivan during a hearingon Friday, as two of Orekan’s supporters sat behind him. “ICE tells me he can absolutely flee the country.”Attorney John F. Cicilline, who is representing Orekan (who is currently being detained), asked Magistrate Judge Patricia Sullivan to release Orekan as has ties to a number of family members in Rhode Island and is not a flight risk. He asked the judge to possibly release Orekan with conditions such as electronic monitoring. The judge denied Cicilline’s request saying electronic monitoring isn’t a full proof tool adding that the evidence against Orekan is strong and that the investigation shows it’s become even stronger.“The defendant has significant ties to a differentcountry…the affidavit mentions a substantial amount of passports that have passed muster at a number of banks…wiring of tens of thousands to the defendant’s mother in Nigeria,”Sullivan said.“Finally, and very significant, the defendant had contact with law enforcement in November 2016, was released and continued the behavior and then charged in January 2017, released and again continued the behavior,” Sullivan added."Now facing federal charges knitting together what is now unlike instances in November and January, a very substantial charge exposing himto a period of incarceration and risk of deportation."

My future not tied to FA Cup, says Wenger

Arsene Wenger has insisted the FA Cup will play no part in deciding his future as Arsenal manager.
Wenger has won the trophy a record equalling six times and Wembley could be his salvation again as they face Manchester City in Sunday’s semi final. But despite being under pressure with his contract due to expire in the summer, Wenger made it clear winning the FA Cup will not
decidewhether he stays at the Emirates.Wenger, 67, who is expected to sign a new two year contract, said: “It doesn’t play any part in that. The FA Cup is a very important game for me because it’s the next game and because it’s an opportunity, as I just told you, to win a trophy this season.“So of course we are all fully focused on that. My future is Sunday. My commitment is total and I am only focused on Arsenal.”Wenger said using a back three again at Wembley is “an option” for Arsenal again, having won at Middlesbrough on Monday using that system. But they will be without Shkodran Mustafi again because of his thigh injury while Danny Welbeck is a doubt. David Ospina, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Lucas Perez are all still out.Wenger did stress the need to win the FA Cup this season and admitted that it has a special place in his heart.“My memories are of the old Wembley, I played in 1998 againstNewcastle in the final,” said Wenger. “For me when I was a kidI watched the games at Wembley on television, so that was the first time for me to reach Wembley and to play in the final was special for me.

Opinion: "How To Know Ladies That Will Become Lazy & Dirty Housewives"

It's often said that love is not enough to walk down the aisle with a lady because there are other basic things to be taken into consideration, and failure to do so causes a lot problems in marriage.

Though, every lady has her own flaws but there are some irritating attributes many ladies posses such as laziness and dirtiness which will cause more problems in marriage.

Now, let's observe the signs that a lady will become a lazy and dirty housewife

She ties wrapper everywhere

Listen up! Most young ladies who tie wrapper everywhere are liable to become lazy and dirty housewives. It's very shameful to see a young girl of about twenty years parading one street to another with wrapper without even seeing anything wrong with it. Most of these ladies are potential lazy housewives and every man should take a drift at the sight of such ladies.

Lack of enthusiasm towards domestic work

It's such a big turn off seeing some ladies forming Behind and they will pile up their dirty clothes and kitchen utensils for weeks and will cause global warming to the nation. These ladies are spoilt brat and will sit their ass down in their bedroom watching their mothers doing the cooking and washing alone. We don't need the likes of tosyne2much and lalasticlala to tell us that they are potential lazy housewives.

Mouth Odour

Many of us might have had encounter with ladies who don't take proper care of their body. They are more concerned about looking Behind than having personal hygiene. The stench of their mouth odour during love making will quickly revert your joystick back to its default state. These ones will definitely become lazy asses after marriage.

Her room is usually littered up

Some ladies are just so dirty that they only clean up their rooms when they know a man is coming around. Try to give them an impromptu visit and you should see their undies littered everywhere. The stench of their dirty undies will quickly drive you out of their rooms with immediate effect. They usually justify their laziness and dirtiness by saying are aren't house maids and can never help any man boyfriends wash his clothes or underwears

She over sleeps

Potential lazy house wives don't usually wake up early on the morning. It's either they wake up around 10am or 11am and when they wake up, the first thing they do is launch into their Facebook and Instagram and reply messages for about an hour before thinking of rising from the bed. They sleep with their legs wide open and their snore can be hard kilometres away.

She is a ardent fan of Soap Operas and Reality Shows

These are ladies that are BBA and BBNaija freaks. They don't equip themselves to help a man's dreams come true, but are usually concerned about how T. Boss and Bisola don't merit BBNaija. They wake up at midnight just to watch irrelevant TV shows since they are so sure that a rich man will surely come from nowhere to marry them no matter how unproductive they are.

She eats junks and barely cooks

Ibised to think it was a mere exaggeration that some ladies can't even cook noodles let alone jollof rice. They are fond of eating junks and will claim that they don't really like local foods. You see them parading eateries with men just to eat gala, sharwama, cake and soft drinks for months without stepping a foot in the kitchen. The moment you ask them when last they purchased food stuffs in market, you automatically become their enemy of progress.

She talks about her love for house maids

You are not yet married to them and they're already telling you how many maids they want when they get married. As ridiculous as it sounds, they even want their maids to watch their pants and bras, and if possible help them brush their teeth and bathe them. Most ladies like this will end up becoming lazy and dirty housewives and will only keep their men frustrated

Pique: Barcelona 'have nothing to lose' ahead of Juve clash

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes the pressure will be off Luis Enrique's side when they take on Juventus in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Juve hold a 3-0 aggregate lead heading into Wednesday's encounter at Camp Nou, with Paulo Dybala's double and Giorgio Chiellini's second-half header having claimed a convincing first-leg win.

"I feel good and I am ready for playing against Juventus," Pique told reporters after Barca's 3-2 LaLiga win over Real Sociedad.

"The team played in Turin without any confidence, and that made us soft. But if we play with confidence you will see another team.

"We are in a difficult situation, but these things happen in a season. We will have nothing to lose."

Lai Mohammed- We have been told of how looters are burying stolen funds in their backyards

The Federal Government has described its whistle-blower policy, which has led to the recovery of looted funds as an effective tool of fighting corruption in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji LaiMohammed, stated that the policyhas also shown the depth of support among Nigerians for the fight against corruption.
Commending Nigerians for the enthusiasm and commitment thatthey have shown in helping the government to tackle the hydra-headed monster of corruption through the useful leads they have been providing to appropriate government agencies, the Information Minister said “Since we launched the whistle-blower policy, we have received immeasurable support from Nigerians. Yes, there is monetary reward for any information that leads to recovery of looted funds, but from what we have seen, most of the Nigerians who have come forward with useful leads were driven by patriotism rather than reward.”In addition, he said ”Nigerians, fired by a fervid resolve to help banish corruption from their country, have daily inundated the offices of the appropriate government agencies with valuable information. We have been told how looters have resorted to burying stolen funds intheir backyards, in deep forests and even in burial grounds.”“Thanks to whistle-blowers, it is now clear that a rapacious few have pillaged the nation’s wealth through a vicious orgy of corrupt practices. Thanks to the useful information provided by Nigerians, it is now obvious that more funds are in the possession of looters than are available to government at all levels to meets its obligations including paying workers’ salaries, providing socialamenities, upgrading infrastructure and ensuring the security of lives and property.”Also, he said, “As the looters continue to run helter-skelter, many of them are evenabandoning their booty at unusualplaces, including airports. We want to assure Nigerians that we will not abandon this policy for whatever reason. Instead, we will continue to rejig it to make it moreeffective as a tool for fighting corruption.”He said the recovered looted funds are safe, adding that as soon as the necessary reconciliation process and the litigation in some of the cases are concluded, the government will give a full account of the funds to Nigerians Alhaji Mohammed re-assured Nigerians who have useful information on looted funds that the government will protect their identities and also ensure that they get the stipulatedreward for their efforts.

Minister Of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi Finally Opens Up On$43million Found In Lagos Home Linked To Him

The current Minister of Transportation,Chibuike Rotimi Amaechihas finally broken his silence following accusations that he is the owner of the recovered$43 million found in a house in Ikoyi.
Following rumours linking the Minister of Transportation and immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to the recovered $43m found in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, the politician has denied the allegation.Amaechi further stated that he does not have any link with the house in question.  He said he has no business, link or connection to the money or property and that he does not know who owns the money or the apartment. He also dismissed the claims by his successor, Mr. Nyesom Wike that the money belongs to him (Amaechi).Wike had alleged at a press conference on Friday night, that“the money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.”He also insinuated that the “houses’” in Ikoyi equally belong tothe former governor Amaechi. In a statement released by his Media Office in Abuja on Saturday,Amaechi described the claims as malicious, frivolous and another failed attempt by Wike to divert attention from the mess he has created in Rivers State.According to the statement,“Wike has stolen Rivers State dry. Wike and his gang have frittered billionsof naira of Rivers people money away.“Rivers State is perpetually in crisis, the state in a mess as Wike has made a total mess of governance in the State. That childwho sits there as governor is confused, he doesn’t know what todo. Wike’s only solution is to attack Amaechi.“Since he became governor, Wike sleeps and wakes up every day, with a sole, one-point agenda to attack and denigrate Rotimi Amaechi, no matter how ridiculous and silly he sounds.“Everyday in Rivers State, there is one frivolous, false story of what Amaechi did or didn’t do. Same pattern, the same blatant lies with no proof, same old concocted stories of corruption allegations against Amaechi told with different flavours.“At this rate, if Wike is unable to perform his spousal duties, he will blame it on Amaechi. Yes, that’s how despicably low he can go in his consuming fixation to throw mud at Amaechi.”“This latest outburst by Wike is typical of him. We are aware that Wike first tried to float the fake news of Amaechi’s ownership of the recovered $43million and the Ikoyi house in the social media using his minions and lackeys, spending huge sums of Rivers money on the failed project.“His minions and lackeys were calling journalists, bloggers and media organisations to run the fake story with promises of almost irresistible mouth-wateringcompensation for using the fake story.“When that failed and the story didn’t gain traction that was when Wike decided to hurriedly hold the press conference Friday night, to rant and spew his outright lies, yet again without providing any proof of Amaechi’s ownership of both the property and the money.”“For clarity and emphasis, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is not the owner of the $43million and the Ikoyi apartment in which the money was recovered from. Amaechi has no business, link or connection to the money or property. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi does not know who owns the money or Ikoyi apartment.”Amaechi described Wike’s malicious allegation of corruption against Amaechi in the sale of the Gas Turbines as not new.He said that the false claim had been punctured repeatedly with facts and evidence of the transfer payments for the power plants into Rivers State government accounts by Sahara Energy. He said,“The records of how the funds were spent and what it was spent on are in the records of the State government. Amaechi has absolutely no business or any interest whatsoever in Sahara Energy. The company was alreadya thriving business concern beforeAmaechi’s emergence as governor of Rivers State in 2007.“We urge all right-thinking members of the public to completely disregard all the false, politically motivated no-proof claims by Nyesom Wike and his minions as it concerns Amaechi and the $43million and Ikoyi property.“The false accusations by Wike is purely diversionary, a political smear campaign against Amaechiby Wike, while he steals Rivers State blind. The fake claims is a figment of the imagination of Wike, an ignoble fellow who’s so reckless, irresponsible, and disgraceful, and has debased the high office he holds in trust for thepeople.“Wike is a rabble-rouser and should not be taken seriously. He has made several false claims likethis in the recent past and never went the whole length to prove it because he had no proof.“Many would recall how Wike was screaming all over national television stations just before the Rivers State legislative Rerun elections that he had an explosive video, containing earth-shaking revelations and he would show thevideo on national TV. Till date, no video, just talk and talk, telling more and more lies.”He challenged Wike to charge him to court if he has any shred of evidence that the money belongs to Rivers State and was kept in theIkoyi apartment by him.“But like his numerous frivolous accusations in the past, we know he won’t go to court. He has nothing to substantiate his blatantlies. This Wike’s recent tale like hisprevious ones is a big sham, a disgraceful political drama, and a campaign of calumny to defame and destroy the sterling reputationof Rotimi Amaechi. This is now Wike’s sole life ambition,”he added. He urged Nigerians to note that“Wike’s reckless, irresponsible andfictitious tirade against the President Buhari administration athis media briefing of Friday”was a declaration of war against the Federal Government.

We are determined to continue with the fight against terrorism - Buhari says in Easter message to Nigerians

President Buhari in his 2017 Easter to Nigerians says it is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place. Read his piece below...I congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters on the celebration of this year’s Easter. I rejoice with you on this historic occasion signifying the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, redemption over condemnation, and hope over despair. The commemoration of this special season in Christianity, is always preceded by fasting, piety, humility, penance and prayers of intercession in the build up to the death of JesusChrist on Good Friday, an event which reunited man with his Creator. The message of Easter is filled with themes of love, faith, sacrifice, dedication, commitment, fulfilment of prophecy, hope, expectation and victory, as espoused in the Scriptures and the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ. As we celebrate yet another Easter, I urge all Nigeriansto live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside. In the almost two years of this administration, we have worked hard to meet the expectations of Nigerians by improving security, especially in the North-East, sustaining the campaign against corruption and have takensteps to revitalize the economy. We are determined as never before to continue with the fight against terrorism and insurgency; sustain the peace in the Niger Delta through engagements with stakeholders; and restore peace and stability in other parts of the country. It is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place. Lack of peace in one part affects in one way or the other, all parts of the country. Our people must rediscover the values of peaceful co-existence, social justice, religious tolerance, dignity of labour and patriotism. I enjoin all Nigerians to keep faith in the determination and ability of this administration to change the Nigerian story for the good of all. Iwish all Nigerians happy Easter celebrations.

EFCC Celebrates 14th Anniversary

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, stated in an interview session with staff to mark it’s 14th year anniversary that the commission will always fight in ensuring that corruption is completely wiped out in Nigeria, a development that will ensure Nigeria retains her position in the comity of nations.

He encouraged the staff to uphold the core values of the Commission and said it was necessary to put more efforts in the ongoing fight against corruption as that is the only way succour can be brought to Nigeria.

We will continue to fight corruption whether anybody likes it or not. Because, we know that, that is the only way we can bring succor to this country. Now that we have found ourselves in this position, please, let us put heads together”, Magu said.

He also encouraged that the public should furnish him with information on how the Commission can move forward; information on the wrong things they are doing, in order for them to be addressed so that the image of the Agency will not be tarnished.

He said:

My door is completely opened. If something is going on wrong, please come and tell me. If you don’t want to show your face, just write a letter to me. Information is very important. I am alone, if you don’t tell me what is wrong, I would not know” he said.

He added that he doesn’t want to know what is right and that the public should state how to correct the system itself because the system needs correction every day.

People are complaining about corruption in the EFCC, which is not good. We should not allow some individuals to spoil our names here”, he admonished.

Magu who said that the efforts being made by the Commission in fighting corruption, is fast gaining recognition in the international communities, charged the staff to shun the wrong things and be part of the success story. He said it was necessary to always remember to put the interest of the nation first.

If you go to United States of America and the United Kingdom, they are all awash with news about us because of this Malabu case. So we are succeeding. Be part of the success. Forget about your own interest. Consider the overall interest of this country and the interest of the nation.

If Buhari is fit, good luck to him. He admitted that things went on fine when Osinbajo acted for him; you know the vice president is younger, while ill health and military background weaken the president.“Things were better when the vice president acted because I was getting electricity for eight hours aday, and now since Buhari came back and took over, electricity supply dropped to two or three hours in a day.“Same happens in Lagos, people pay electricity bill they didn’t enjoy, it wasn’t happening when Osinbajo was acting.“During the short period that the VP acted, there was no blowing ofpipelines anymore.“If what happens in this country inthe last two years didn’t kill me, I don’t think it will kill me in the nexttwo years. The suffering was much, I suffered and you suffered.“The other day I got a text message from somebody who complained how he has been suffering, as his pensions had not been paid for over one year, and his children are still in school, I told him, how I was also suffering.“Everybody is suffering, but if we want to suffer, we can continue the suffering. The Hausa people say, Mutuwar yawa kaka meaning‘If death is going to take everybody, not me alone, let it come’.“So, you can see, if Buhari says heis fit and wants to continue, I wishhim good luck.” He said.

4 Policemen & 1 Soldier Die As Soldiers & Policemen Fight Over Girlfriend In Yobe

A clash between soldiers and policemen over a girlfriend left four mobile police officers and one soldier dead in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, yesterday, with several others injured.

Among the wounded mobile police officer is Buba Dauda, the Mobile Commander in Yobe State, whose abduction by the soldiers in the wee hours of yesterday triggered the face-off between the two security agencies.

Vanguard gathered from sources that the clash resulted from a misunderstanding that erupted between a serving Army Captain and some mobile policemen over a girlfriend the military officer allegedly snatched from a mobile policeman.

The situation did not go down well with the policeman, who mobilised his colleagues to beat the Captain comatose.

On hearing what happened to their colleague, some soldiers stormed the residence of the police team’s boss in the area in two patrol vans and took him to an unknown destination.
It was gathered that the fight began when some mobile policemen also teamed up to confront the soldiers regarding the whereabouts of their Commander.

Officer’s narrative

According to a mobile police officer, who spoke to Vanguard at Yobe State Specialist Hospital, where the Mobile Commander is receiving treatment, “we received the news that our commandant, CSP Buba Dauda, was abducted by some soldiers and taken to Sasawa village and later taken to 233 Battalion in Damaturu.

Ekiti Assembly Fines Fayemi N1m For Shunning Summons

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has imposed N1m fine on the former governor of the state and current Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for failing to answer three summonses served on him.
The fine was part of the two resolutions reached by the lawmakers at their plenary on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti.
The Assembly also agreed to write a reminder to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on the need to execute the warrant of arrest issued against Fayemi.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday after the plenary, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, said the Assembly derived the power to sanction Fayemi under Section 129(1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution.
He said, “It is public knowledge that this honourable house invited the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, at three consecutive times spanning a period of one year.
“The first invitation was sent on March 10, 2016, the second invitation was sent on November 29, 2016, and the third invitation was sent on February 2, 2017.
“Rather than attend to these invitations by the EKHA as empowered by Section 129 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and come to the Assembly to explain himself on allegations of corruption and abuse of office levelled against him by the executive arm of government, Dr. Fayemi prefers to play to the gallery.
“He ‘shadow-boxed’ himself by putting his face at the laws of our land, thus constituting a serious affront and threat to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.”
Omotoso maintained that the Assembly, under Section 129 (1) (c) of the constitution, had the power to invite anybody for information and clarification, especially on matters of evidence.
He added, “This we have done and Dr. Fayemi was officially declared wanted on February 7, 2017, and the police was adequately communicated through the IGP to effect his arrest forthwith.
“Up until this moment, the police have failed to carry out their constitutional duties as conferred by the 1999 Constitution of the FRN.
“This breach of the law of the land is one too many on the part of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and stands condemned by this House and all lovers of democracy and the rule of law.
“Flowing from the above, this House today officially declares the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as a lawbreaker; and in exercising our powers under Section 129, (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria hereby imposes a fine of N1m on Dr. Fayemi and payable to the EKHA.”
Omotoso said the Assembly had begun a court process to obtain an order of mandamus that would compel the police to arrest Fayemi and bring him before the Assembly.
