Meet The Man Who First Invent The " EXAMS"

Michel Henry (French: [ɑ̃ʁi]; 10 January 1922 – 3
July 2002) was a French philosopher and
novelist. He wrote five novels and numerous
philosophical works. He also lectured at
universities in France, Belgium, the United States
of America, and Japan.
Biography[edit]
Michel Henry was born in Haiphong, French
Indochina (now Vietnam), and he lived in French
Indochina until he was seven years old. Following
the death of his father, who was an officer in the
French Navy, he and his mother settled in
metropolitan France. While studying in Paris, he
discovered a true passion for philosophy, which
he decided to make his profession.[1] From June
1943 he was fully engaged with the French
Resistance, joining the maquis of the Haut Jura
under the code name of Kant. He often had to
come down from the mountains in order to
accomplish missions in Nazi-occupied Lyon, an
experience of clandestinity that deeply marked
his philosophy.[2]
At the end of the war he took the final part of
the philosophy examination at the university,
following which he wrote a thesis under the
direction of Jean Hyppolite, Jean Wahl, Paul
Ricœur, Ferdinand Alquié, and Henri Gouhier. His
first book, on the Philosophy and Phenomenology
of the Body, was completed in 1950. His first
significant published work was on The Essence
of Manifestation, to which he devoted long years
of necessary research in order to surmount the
main deficiency of all intellectualist philosophy,
the ignorance of life as experienced.[3]
From 1960, Michel Henry was a professor of
philosophy at the University of Montpellier, where
he patiently perfected his work, keeping himself
away from philosophical fashions and far from
thèmes abordés.[6] He died in Albi, France, at
the age of eighty.
The sole subject of his philosophy is living
subjectivity, which is to say the real life of living
individuals. This subject is found in all his work
and ensures its deep unity in spite of the
diversity of themes he tackled.[7] It has been
suggested that he proposed the most profound
theory of subjectivity in the Twentieth Century.
A phenomenology of life[edit]
The work of Michel Henry is based on
Phenomenology, which is the study of the
phenomenon. The English/German/Latinate word
"phenomenon" comes from the Greek
"phainomenon" which means "that which shows
itself by coming into the light".[8] The everyday
understanding of phenomenon as appearance is
only possible as a negative derivation of this
authentic sense of Greek self-showing. The
object of phenomenology is not however
something that appears, such as a particular
thing or phenomena, but the act of appearing
itself.[9] Henry's thought led him to a reversal of
Husserlian phenomenology, which acknowledges
as phenomenon only that which appears in the
world, or exteriority. Henry counterposed this
conception of phenomenality with a radical
phenomenology of life.[10]
Henry defines life from a phenomenological point
of view as what possesses the faculty and the
power "to feel and to experience oneself in every
point of its being".[11] For Henry, life is
essentially force and affect; it is essentially
invisible; it consists in a pure experience of itself
which perpetually oscillates between suffering
and joy; it is an always begun again passage
from suffering to joy.[12] Thought is for him only
a mode of life, because it is not thought which
gives access to life, but life that allows thought
to reach itself.[13]
According to Henry, life can never be seen from
the exterior, as it never appears in the exteriority
of the world. Life feels itself and experiences
itself in its invisible interiority and in its radical
immanence. In the world we never see life itself,
but only living beings or living organisms; we
cannot see life in them.[14] In the same way, it
is impossible to see another person's soul with
the eyes or to perceive it at the end of a
scalpel.
Henry's philosophy goes on to aver that we
undergo life in a radical passivity, we are
reduced to bear it permanently as what we have
not wanted, and that this radical passivity of life
is the foundation and the cause of suffering.[15]
[16] No-one has ever given himself life. At the
same time, the simple fact of living, of being
alive and of feeling oneself instead of being
nothing and of not existing is already the highest
joy and the greatest happiness. Suffering and joy
belong to the essence of life, they are the two
fundamental affective tonalities of its
manifestation and of its "pathetic" self-revelation
(from the French word pathétique which means
capable of feeling something like suffering or
joy).[17]
For Henry, life is not a universal, blind,
impersonal and abstract substance, it is
necessarily the personal and concrete life of a
living individual, it carries in it a consubstantial
Ipseity which refers to the fact of being itself, to
the fact of being a Self.[18] This life is the
personal and finite life of men, or the personal
and infinite life of God.
Two modes of manifestation[edit]
Two modes of manifestation of phenomena exist,
according to Henry, which are two ways of
appearing: "exteriority", which is the mode of
manifestation of the visible world, and
phenomenological "interiority", which is the mode
of manifestation of invisible life.[19] Our bodies,
for instance, are in life given to us from the
inside, which allows us, for example, to move our
hands, and it also appears to us from the outside
like any other object that we can see in the
world.[20]
The "invisible", here, does not correspond to that
which is too small to be seen with the Unclad
eye, or to radiation to which the eye is not
sensitive, but rather to life, which is forever
invisible because it is radically immanent and
never appears in the exteriority of the world. No-
one has ever seen a force, a thought or a feeling
appear in the world in their inner reality; no-one
has ever found them by digging into the ground.
[21]
Some of his assertions seem paradoxical and
difficult to understand at first glance, not only
because they are taken out of context, but
above all because our habits of thought make us
reduce everything to its visible appearance in the
world instead of trying to attain its invisible
reality in life. It is this separation between visible
appearance and invisible reality which allows the
dissimulation of our real feelings and which
grounds the possibility of sham and hypocrisy,
which are forms of lies.[22]
Originality of Henry's thought[edit]
Western philosophy as a whole since its Greek
origins recognizes only the visible world and
exteriority as the sole form of manifestation. It
is trapped into what in The Essence of
Manifestation Michel Henry calls "ontological
monism"; it completely ignores the invisible
interiority of life, its radical immanence and its
original mode of revelation which is irreducible
to any form of transcendence or to any
exteriority.[23] When subjectivity or life are in
question, they are never grasped in their purity;
they are systematically reduced to biological life,
to their external relation with the world, or as in
Husserl to an intentionality, i.e. an orientation of
consciousness towards an object outside it.[24]
Henry rejects materialism, which admits only
matter as reality, because the manifestation of
matter in the transcendence of the world always
presupposes life's self-revelation, whether in
order to accede to it, or to be able to see it or
touch it. He equally rejects idealism, which
reduces being to thought and is in principle
incapable of grasping the reality of being which
it reduces to an unreal image, to a simple
representation. For Michel Henry, the revelation
of the absolute resides in affectivity and is
constituted by it.[25]
The deep originality of Michel Henry's thought
and its radical novelty in relation to all preceding
philosophy explains its fairly limited reception. It
is however a philosophy that is admired for its
"rigor" and its "depth".[26][27][28][29] But his
thought is both "difficult" and "demanding",
despite the simplicity and immediacy of its
central and unique theme of phenomenological
life, the experience of which it tries to
communicate.[30] It is the immediacy and
absolute transparency of life which explains the
difficulty of grasping it as a thought: it is much
easier to speak of what we see than of this
invisible life, which fundamentally avoids being
seen from the outside[31] · .[32]
Reception of Henry's philosophy[edit]
His thesis on The Essence of Manifestation was
warmly welcomed by the members of the jury,
who recognized the intellectual value and the
seriousness of its author, although this thesis did
not have any influence on their later works.[33]
His book on Marx was rejected by Marxists, who
were harshly criticized, as well as by those who
refused to see in Marx a philosopher and who
reduced him to an ideologue responsible from
Marxism.[34] His book on Barbarism was
considered by some as a rather simplistic and
overly trenchant anti-scientific discourse.
Nevertheless it seems that science and
technology too often pursue their blind and
unrestrained development in defiance of life.[35]
His works on Christianity seem rather to have
disappointed certain professional theologians and
catholic exegetes, who contented themselves
with picking out and correcting what they
considered as “dogmatic errors”.[36] His
phenomenology of Life was the subject of a
pamphlet on Le tournant théologique de la
phénoménologie française (The Theological Turn
in French Phenomenology) by Dominique
Janicaud, who sees in the immanence of life
only the affirmation of a tautological interiority.
[37] On the other hand, Antoine Vidalin published
a book entitled La parole de la Vie (The Word of
Life) in which he shows that Michel Henry's
phenomenology allows for a renewed approach
to every area of theology.[38]
As Alain David says in an article published in the
French journal Revue philosophique de la France
et de l'étranger (number 3, July – September
2001),[39] the thought of Michel Henry seems so
radical, it affects our habitual ways of thinking
so deeply, that it has had a difficult reception,
even if all his readers declare themselves
impressed by its "power", by the "staggering
effect" of a thought which "sweeps everything
clean on its way through", which "prompts
admiration", but nevertheless "doesn’t really
convince", as we don’t know whether we are
confronted by "the violence of a prophetic voice
or by pure madness".[40] In the same journal,
Rolf Kühn also asserts, in order to explain the
difficult reception of Michel Henry’s work, that
"if we do not side with any power in this world,
we inevitably submit to silence and to criticism
from every possible power, because we remind
each institution that its visible or apparent power
is, in fact, only powerlessness, because nobody
gives himself over to absolute phenomenological
life".[41]
His books have been translated into many
languages, notably English, German, Spanish,
Italian, Portuguese and Japanese. A substantial
amount of work has been dedicated to him,
mainly in French, but also in German, Spanish
and Italian. A number of international seminars
have also been dedicated to the thought of
Michel Henry in Beirut, Cerisy, Namur, Prague,
Montpellier, Paris and Louvain-la-Neuve in 2010.
Michel Henry is considered by those who know
his work and recognize its value as one of the
most important contemporary philosophers,[42]
[43][44] and his phenomenology of life has
started to gain a following. A Michel Henry Study
Center has been established at St Joseph's
University in Beirut (Lebanon) under the direction
of Professor Jad Hatem.
Since 2006, the archives of the philosopher have
been deposited by his wife at the catholic
University of Louvain (Belgium), where they form
the Michel Henry archives Fund, placed under
the direction of Jean Leclercq. An annual review,
called Revue internationale Michel Henry, is also
edited by this Fund in collaboration with the
Presses universitaires de Louvain since 2010.
An information letter on Michel Henry in French,
called La gazette d'Aliahova (in reference to the
town of Aliahova described in the Michel Henry
novel L'Amour les yeux fermés), is published
every month by Roland Vaschalde since 2010.
The goal of this publication is to keep informed
of the articles, books, courses, seminars and
meetings on the thought of Michel Henry.

"The Cleanest Street In Ile-Ife To Receive N100K Every Month" Says Ooni.

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba
Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over the weekend launched
an environmental sanitation programme tagged
‘Gba’femo’ (Sweep Ife Clean).
The programme is worth millions of Naira and
anchored by Motherland Beckons and has as
part of strategies to push residents’ involvement
a cleaning competition among all the streets in
Ife.
The cleanest street in Ile-Ife and its environs
when chosen would receive a cash reward of
100,000 Naira every month.
At the commissioning of the project held in front
of the Ile-Oodua, Enuwa Square in Ile Ife, Osun
State, Oba Ogunwusi, who was accompanied by
his queen, Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi, said the
provision of the two new Leyland trucks and
waste disposal bins was to encourage the people
of Ile-Ife to take the issue of sanitation very
seriously.
He declared that “environmental sanitation or
cleanliness is crucial in the drive to make Ile-Ife
a tourist destination. And Ile-Ife has to be
prepared ahead for the millions of tourists
expected to visit the ancient historical city from
next year”.
According to him, this is why about 200 youths
have been selected and enlisted for the take-off
of the programme in collaboration with Local
Government Authorities.

Son Of China's Richest Man Buys Eight Iphone 7s For His Dog

Coco the Alaskan Malamute might be the most
pampered pooch in the world.
The pet dog has apparently been given eight
iPhone 7 handsets by his doted owner, the only
son of China's richest man Wang Jianlin, worth
£23 billion, according to Chinese media.
Pictures have emerged on China's social media
showing the lucky canine posing next to a stack
of eight boxes believed to contain a £800 phone
in each.
Coco's eccentric owner Wang Sicong, 28, was
educated at Winchester College and is already
worth £430 million.
These pictures were believed to be uploaded by
Wang Sicong to the dog's very own social media
account on Weibo, which has nearly 1.9 million
followers and is ironically named 'Wang Keke is
a Dam'.
The images were posted in the afternoon of
September 16, the first day the iPhone 7 and
iPhone 7 went on sale.
Along with the pictures, a post read: 'Not sure
what people are showing off on Moments (a
Chinese social media platform)! There is nothing
to show off. I was forced to take action.'
The pictures have been widely shared by Chinese
media, including news sites cnbeta.com and
on.cc.
The post has also gathered thousands of shares
and comments.
Some people said the dog was cute while others
hoped Wang Sicong could give them a free
iPhone 7 too.
One Weibo user named 'M mi jia' said: '[The dog]
is so cute.'
While another user called 'wo shi lao duan zi'
said: 'Does the dog plan to host a lucky draw?'
Some people were envious of the dog's fortune,
such as 'Free liu te' who said: 'Coco is richer
than me!'
'Zha lao ban' wasn't impressed as the user
commented: 'I can't even live as well as a dog.'
In China, an iPhone 7 costs 6,988 yuan (£803)
while an iPhone 7 Plus costs 7,988 yuan (£918).
Sicong is a successful businessman and one of
the richest entrepreneurs under the age 30 in
China.
As the pet of Wang Sicong, Coco has some how
become a celebrity in her own right in China as
her owner calls her: 'The dog princess of the
people.'
Through her Weibo account, Sicong shows off
the ostentatious lifestyle he has created for his
dog with luxury products most animals can only
dream of.
This is not the first time Coco has impressed the
public with her cutting-edge gadgets.
In May 2015, the pooch was pictured wearing
not one, but two £800 Apple Watches given to
her by her generous owner.
The pet was also given a pink Fendi handbag by
his owner in the same month.
Earlier this year, Sicong posted pictures of Coco
posing with a wads of cash, which he claimed is
her present on Valentine's Day,
In April, the pampered pooch celebrated her
second birthday with an extravagant birthday
party and two cakes.
Her multi-millionaire owner spelt her name in
balloons and tied them to his super car. On
social media Coco was pictured tucking into her
two cakes at her own birthday celebration.
As if all is not enough, Sicong opened an online
shop to mark her birthday.
The new online shop, called Coco Wang, sells a
line of doggie-inspired toys and accessories,
from tote bags, flasks to mobile phone cases. All
of them carry cartoon illustrations of the fluffy
pet.
And when Coco goes on holiday, she travels in
first-class style.
In last November, she rode on a private jet and
was chauffeur driven to the luxury
accommodation during a winter break.
The only son of mega-rich property tycoon Wang
Jianlin, 61, Wang Sicong is the golden boy with
the gentle manner, cut-glass English accent, who
is the sole heir to his father's fortune.
Wang Jianlin is worth a whopping $30 billion
(£23 billion), according to Forbes.
As China's most eligible bachelor, Sicong is the
darling of China's tabloids due to his enviable
lifestyle and rarely pictured with a beautiful
model on his arm.
Like most privileged children of China's mega-
wealthy, he was educated abroad – first at a
primary school in Singapore and then to £30,000
a year Winchester College – one of England's
top public schools – and on to University College
London where he studied philosophy.
Back in China, in 2009 he was handed a gilded
position in the Dalian Wanda conglomerate by his
father – and £53 million to start his own
business.
'I told him I would allow him to fail twice. If he
fails for the third time, he would have to come
back and work in my company earnestly,' his
father told China Central Television (CCTV).
He set up Pusi Capital, a private equity firm
based in capital city Beijing, to invest in projects
and companies he likes.
His private equity firm has invested in 22
companies in the past seven years, from online
gaming firms to film-making studios to Korean
restaurants.
They help Sicong grow his portfolio of fortune
eight times - from £53 million to £430 million - in
the past six years, as revealed by Hurun Rich
List, which tracks the fortune of wealthy Chinese
businessmen.

Meet The Youngest Female In The World With A Full Beard

Harnaam Kaur of Slough, UK stands as one of
the most inspiring record-holders to grace the
pages of the new Guinness World Records 2017
annual, holding the title of youngest female with
a full beard.
The anti-bullying and body image activist has a
fascinating story to tell as she overcame years
of bullying to take ownership of her appearance
and get awarded this record title at the age of
24 years 282 days.

Born on 29 November 1990, Harnaam first
started to notice that she was growing facial hair
at the age of 11.
She was eventually diagnosed with polycystic
ovary syndrome, a condition that means she has
much more testosterone than most women which
is what causes hair to grow on her face.
Harnaam used to remove all her hair, but says
that once she decided to let it grow and accept
her body the way it is, she felt empowered. Her
beard now measures six inches long in some
places.
In her application for the record title, the body
positivity campaigner told Guinness World
Records: “I didn't realise how much my life's
journey of being a self-loather to a self-lover
would inspire men and women in many different
countries.”
2016 has been a huge year for Harnaam, after
becoming the first female with a beard to walk
the runway at London Fashion Week in March
and having her portrait included as part of the
photography series #Project60.
Harnaam describes her place in the Guinness
World Records book as “absolutely humbling”
and hopes it will help her to impart her inspiring
message that it is okay to be different.
“I never really understood what role I had to play
in this world as a bearded lady. As the years
have gone on I have realised that I was born to
stand up proud as a woman who promotes body
confidence with in both genders, I was born to
show the world something else apart from the
‘societies norm,’ and I was born to help people
become confident and comfortable with in
themselves,” she explains.

Buhari Has Lost His Memory – Fani-kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-
Kayode, has stated President Muhammadu
Buhari, had either lost his memory or was not
well-informed when he told Nigerians that he
inherited nothing from the PDP administrations
of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and
Goodluck Jonathan.
The ex-Spokesman of Goodluck Jonathan
Presidential Campaign Organisation told
Vanguard that President Buhari had in the last
one year and three months, brought nothing but
chaos, destruction, division, fear, deaths and
shame to Nigeria compared to the PDP
governments he was ridiculing.
He said, “It is obvious that President
Muhammadu Buhari has either lost his memory
or he has been badly misinformed.
“If you look at the state of the country in 1999
when former President Olusegun Obasanjo took
over and compare it to what it was in 2007 when
he left office, you will find out that there was not
just development but also a miraculous
transformation in every sector; that is what
Obasanjo managed to achieve and I am very
proud to be part of that government and part of
those legacies.
“After Obasanjo left, Umaru Yar’ Adua took over
and then came former President Goodluck
Jonathan. As far as I am concerned, Jonathan
built on Obasanjo’s legacies and foundation and
he took us to yet another level.
“If you compare Nigeria in 2015 by the time
Jonathan left to 1999 before Obasanjo came in,
you will have to thank the PDP for lifting this
nation up and taking us from strength to
strength.
“By the time Jonathan left in 2015, we had the
largest economy on the African Continent and
the fastest growing economy in the world,
among other things.
“In one year and three months, all of that have
been destroyed by President Buhari and his APC,
we are now back in the dark ages. Every sector
in the country has been destroyed and everyone
is complaining.
“President Buhari has brought nothing, but ethnic
cleansing, recession, abuse of power,
persecution, genocide, chaos, destruction,
division, fear, deaths and shame to Nigeria and
they have no other way of running the country,
but to intimidate the citizens and threaten them.
That is his own legacy.
“It should also be noted that a large number of
people that supported Buhari in his quest to
become the president, last year, were all
originally from the PDP, whether the PDP
governors, who decamped or PDP ministers who
decamped or PDP legislators who decamped, 70
percent of people that helped to put Buhari in
power used to be PDP including former President
Olusegun Obasanjo; former Vice President Atiku
Abubakar; Senate President Bukola Saraki;
Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu
Dogara; former speakers Aminu Tambuwal,
Aminu Masari; Umar Ghali Naaba; former
minister of the Federal Capital Territory and
governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El- Rufai;
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State;
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi;
former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Segun
Oni; Danjuma Goje; Aliyu Wammakko; Rabiu
Kwankwaso; Murtala Nyako; George Akume;
Senate Leader, Ali; former PDP national
chairmen, Barnabas Gemade; Audu Ogbeh,
among others.
“When he insults PDP legacy and said that
nothing was ever done by PDP in 16 years, he is
insulting those 70 per cent that put him in power
starting with Obasanjo and I think that this is
most unfair and very ungrateful of him.”

Boko Haram Threatens To Capture Buhari In New Video

One of the factions of the deadly Boko Haram
sect has unveiled a new video showing how the
terrorists in their thousands observed prayers
during the Eid ceremony.
The militant sect under the leadership of
Abubakar Shekau showed members in three
separate praying grounds in Borno and the Lake
Chad area. Meanwhile, the leader of the faction,
Shekau was obviously absent in the recording.
The recording, narrated in Hausa, showed was
posted on YouTube on September 13, Tuesday,
and the group said it was using it to send out
message that it remained a strong force.
The Boko Haram faction threatened President
Muhammadu Buhari, saying that its members are
still many and stay resilient despite the Nigerian
army operation that killed scores of its foot
soldiers and recaptured Nigerian territory under
its control.
The group said: “This is our eid prayer from us
and by the support of our leader Imam Abubakar
Al-Shekau. We are extending our greetings to our
people and fighters. “Message to the infidels and
the leader of the entire infidels (kafir) who is the
President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, that he
should know we are very strong and doing very
good. “By the will of Allah under the leadership of
our leader (Shekau) will capture Buhari with our
hands.”
While the Buhari government claimed that it had
defeated the militant group after retaking much
of its territory, the terrorists still have a massive
capacity for inflicting destruction and casualties.
Recently, two rival factions in Boko Haram have
launched a war for true Islam in Borno state,
close to Lake Chad. One faction is loyal to
Shekau, the group’s leader since 2009, and the
other led by Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was
recently announced as the group’s commander in
a publication of the Islamic State militant group

Nigerians Vent Frustrations Against President Buhari - CNN

Lagos (CNN)
It was supposed to be a rallying cry for unity in a
nation deep in recession crisis.
However the launch of President Buhari's
'Change Begins With Me' campaign quickly went
south as Nigerians took to Twitter to vent their
frustrations against his government.
During a national address on Thursday, the
president said: "The campaign principle is
simple, each of us must live the change we want
to see in our society."
He added: "Before you ask, 'where is the change
they promised us,' you must first ask, 'how far
have I changed my ways."
Angry Nigerians poured scorn on the initiative.
Some felt the sentiment was tone deaf and failed
to address the myriad problems Nigerians face
on a daily basis. Top of that list is an economy
in free fall and mass youth unemployment.
Last month, Nigeria's second quarter GDP fell by
more than two percent compared to last year,
after slipping by 0.4% in the first quarter. Two
consecutive quarters of decline mean Nigeria has
now slid into recession.
While he has been tough on corruption, Nigerians
feel his authoritarian approach is out of touch
when he needs to inspire hope for better times.
Many used the #ChangeBeginsWithMe hash tag
to let the president know he has failed in his
earlier promise to deliver change.
Buhari also recently launched a "War Against
Indiscipline" -- one of his flagship schemes when
he was first in power more than 30 years ago.

Gunmen Burn Down NTA Onitsha Office Building

Suspected gunmen on Wednesday attacked the
Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) office in
Onitsha, Anambra, torching some equipment and
Star Times section in the premises. Acting
Manager of the station, Mr Chris Nwigwe, told
newsmen in Onisha that the incident occurred at
about 1.40 a.m.
“Some armed men tried to attack the staff on
duty but only succeeded in burning down the
Star Times building,” he said, adding that no life
was lost in the attack. An eyewitness said that
an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was
planted at the security post of the station, while
tyres were set around the premises to set the
station ablaze.
“There was a gun duel between the armed men
and policemen who are manning the office.
“They managed to burn down the Star Times
office while the fire was later put out with the
help of people around. “This type of incident has
never happened,” the source said. The
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Sam
Okaula, who visited the scene with the Anti-
Bomb Squad to evacuate the explosive device,
confirmed that three suspects had been arrested
in connection with the incident.
He said that investigation had begun to unravel
the reason for the attack. Okaula lauded
policemen manning the office for their bravery,
saying that their quick intervention prevented
loss of lives and destruction of more property in
the attack. He warned people against taking
laws into their hands, and assured that the police
would get to the root of the incident. “Those
who take laws into their hands should be ready
to face the repercussion,” he stressed, adding
that the suspects would be prosecuted in court
after investigation was concluded. Three police
patrol vans had been stationed in front of the
station to beef up security. (NAN)

Athletes Don’t Need Too Much Preparation To Win Medals – Dalung

As Nigerians still seethe with anger over the poor
preparation Team Nigeria athletes had which
resulted in their woeful outing at the 2016 Rio
Olympic Games in Brazil last, Minister of Youth
and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung may further
infuriate them with his latest claim that athletes
don’t need too much preparation to excel in
competitions.
Speaking yesterday on Brila FM radio monitored
in Lagos in the wake of the sterling performance
posted so far by Team Nigeria athletes at the
on-going Paralympic Games also in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, Dalung said the Paralympic
athletes also had bad preparations like their able
bodied athletes but are doing better in Brazil.
According to Dalung, “the disabled athletes have
shown that all you need is a winning mentality
and not too much preparation, they train-ed
under the same condition with their able bodied
counterparts but they are winning medals now.”
However, Commonwealth champion, Odunayo
Adekuruoye also speaking on the same
programme countered the minister, saying that
there is no way an athlete who trained for a
month or two could do well or think of winning a
medal as she apologised to her fans for failing
them at the Olympics.
“It is not possible to win a medal with one or
two months training. We had looked forward to
good training and hoped to do well at the
Olympics. I want to apologise to Nigerians who
had looked up to me for a medal,” she said.
The publicity-seeking sports minister who had
kept sealed lips following the poor outing at the
Rio Olympics jerked back to his usual self
ostensibly because of the performance of the
Paralympic athletes who have garnered a total of
nine medals consisting six gold, two silver and
one bronze.

Diezani forfeits N4.8b Abuja houses to Federal government

The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) have reportedly seized
some houses in Abuja worth N4.8 billion
allegedly belonging to former Minister of
Petroleum Resources, Dieziani Alison-Madueke.
According to the Nation, one of the mansion's
seized is worth N3.58 billion.
Meanwhile operatives of the antigraft agency
are said to have been deployed to Port
Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to investigate
the ownership of five choice houses believed to
be owned by Alison-Madueke’s. The properties
under surveillance in Port Harcourt are said to
be worth over N3billion.
A top source in EFCC, who spoke in confidence
said:
“Based on latest intelligence, we have
been able to trace more choice assets to
Mrs. Alison-Madueke in Port Harcourt.
We have drafted more operatives in
Rivers State. We have identified more
than five of such assets but we need to
verify the ownership by going through
some documents before attaching the
properties in line with our mandate. In
the next one week, our team in Port
Harcourt would have completed their
assignment. We will then release the
value of the assets. We are also on the
trail of some accomplices who were
used for the property deals.”
The source added
“We are still working in collaboration
with NCA in the UK. I think we are
getting closer to the final leg of the Mrs.
Alison-Madueke probe.”
One of the seized properties which is
worth N500million is believed to be at
Frederick Chiluba Close in Asokoro
District in Abuja. The asset is now
placed under interim forfeiture until the
court decides otherwise,” he added.
Sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC
(Establishment Act) 2004 and Section
13(1) of the Federal High Court Act,
2004 empower the anti-graft agency to
invoke the Interim Assets Forfeiture
Clause.
“Section 28 of the EFCC Act reads:
‘Where a person is arrested for an
offence under this Act, the Commission
shall immediately trace and attach all
the assets and properties of the person
acquired as a result of such economic or
financial crime and shall thereafter
cause to be obtained an interim
attachment order from the Court.’
Section 13 of the Federal High Court Act reads in part: “The sourt may grant an injunction or appoint a receiver by an interlocutory order in all cases in which it appears to the Court to be just or convenient so to do.
'Any such order may be made either
unconditionally or on such terms and
conditions as the Court thinks just.”
The NCA in the UK arrested and quizzed the former Minister and four others on October 2nd last year for alleged bribery and corruption and money laundering. Also the EFCC has interrogated three to five more suspects since the interrogation of Mrs. Alison-Madueke by the
NCA. The NCA last year obtained permission from a Westminster Magistrate’s Court to seize 27,000 pounds from Mrs. Alison-Madueke and two other women.

'He's a jealous man'- El Hadji Diouf blames Steven Gerrard for Mario Balotelli’s failure at Liverpool

Former African footballer of the year El Hadji
Diouf has blasted former teammate and old foe
Steven Gerrard saying he's the reason 'bad boy'
Mario Balotelli didn't make it at Liverpool.
The controversial Italian striker Balotelli scored
two goals on his debut for Nice in a win over
Marseille on Sunday. He moved to Ligue 1 after
having his Liverpool contract terminated.
Speaking after the game, Balotelli said that
moving to Liverpool was the worst decision of
his career, Diouf then used the opportunity to
dish out on Gerrard.
Speaking to L’Equipe, he said: “I told him not to
go to Liverpool. It wasn’t made for him, that
things couldn’t go well with Gerrard, who has
never had his talent and then said negative
things about him.
'Gerrard is a jealous man who doesn’t like men
of character. Mario is a good person that you
should listen to. He’s not a guy who’s going to
cause problems in the dressing room.'
“There are a lot of things that have been made
up about him. People tell tales about him, but
they’re often a load of rubbish.”
''He doesn't like black people’. He’s not a fan.'

Patience Jonathan Scandal: House Of Reps Caution Against Rumors

Members of the House of Representatives on Monday advised security agencies to conclude investigations before smearing the image of Nigerians in the media.
Two members of the House who spoke to Vanguard against the background that the sum of $31.4m was found in a Skye bank account belonging to former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, advised government security agencies to carry out a proper investigation before crucifying her.
Minority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor in his reaction described the allegation as a mere rumour until there are concrete evidence to convince Nigerians.
He said “I will liken this situation to that of budget padding that had no substance in all ramifications”.
“We should allow the security agencies conclude all their findings before crucifying Nigerians in the press”.
“Although I’ve not seen any of the documents
that is being paraded but for now we should
allow those working on it conclude their
investigations first”.
Speaking in the same vein, Rep Ehiozuwa
Johnson Agbonayinma, PDP, Edo said “it’s
still a rumour though I’ve not seen the details
but as you know she is still innocent until
proven otherwise in our law courts.”

label boss, Davido, for believing in his
talent and bringing him this far.

the day I signed my resignation
letter was the day David gave me
the call about me signing on to
DMW. It wasn’t that my decision
was to leave that banking job to
start up music,”
“Obviously if Davido had not
called me, I would have been in
the other bank collecting better
pay, better than the old one, then I
would be trying to save up my bar
(money) so I could record my first
song.”
Mayorkun got huge recognition for
his hit single Eleko, which gained
one million YouTube video views,
within a week of release.
On March 3, 2016, Davido

Mbaka: Buhari Working With Those Who Will Pull Him Down

THE Enugu Catholic priest, and Spiritual Director
of Adoration Ministry, Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Ejike
Mbaka has said President Muhammadu Buhari
currently works with some people who do not
want him to succeed in office and are desperate
to pull him down.
Mbaka has been one of Buhari’s most vocal
supporters since he asked Nigerians to reject
former president Goodluck Jonathan in the run-
up to the 2015 presidential election. The priest
also said it was too early to give Buhari’s regime
a dispassionate assessment, saying Nigerians
should give the President more time.
The Enugu-based cleric said the reason the
country was yet to experience the real change
being midwifed by Buhari was that some
strategic positions were still manned by the
same people who milked the country dry in the
past.
He said the president was not totally free from
the grip of those who ran the country aground in
the past.
Mbaka, who spoke to newsmen in Enugu during
the graduation of Niger Delta youths, who trained
at Innoson Plastic Factory under Federal
Government’s Amnesty Programme, said: “The
government we are experiencing is not yet a
Buharinised government.
“Many people who are in different strategic
positions are still the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) people and Buhari may not even know and
even some people who are working around him
are working to pull him down.
“Buhari means well, Buhari is a good man, Buhari
is God-sent for this country but, I am telling you
that there are crocodiles in the fish pond.
“Buhari may not know that he is feeding not the
fish in the fishpond but crocodiles that are even
feeding on the fishes!”
He urged Nigerians to be prayerful to counter the
activities of those he said were plotting to break
the country and take over power. Mbaka had, a
month ago come down hard on the Buhari
regime, saying there was hunger in the land and
that the President may not get the nod of
Nigerians to get another term in office if the
trend continued.
He added: “Nigerians should go on their knees
and pray for divine intervention because apart
from God, we are going to see horrible things.
The way these people are ganging up, they want
to break Nigeria and take over power and take
us back to where we were coming from. I pray it
shall be well with Nigeria and it shall be well with
Nigerians.”
The cleric, who predicted the victory of Buhari in
the 2015 presidential election, said he was yet to
see the change he wants in Nigeria through the
present government.
“I am talking about change from corruption to
moral probity, a time Nigeria will become a
country that is worthy of emulation, that
internationally when you mention Nigeria,
Nigerians shall begin to smile. I am talking about
change that is beyond embezzlement of funds
meant for the development of the people and
country. Only few people who call themselves
politicians will be stealing the money and
whatever they are doing with it nobody knows.
“The poor masses are dying and they are
enriching themselves wickedly calling themselves
politicians, so, such team of people should be
changed and if some of them are still remaining
and they want to come back, I still pray that the
broom of God will sweep them out because
Nigeria must move forward.
“These people are wicked, they are not Nigerians
per say, I don’t know where their blood came
from because they are not representing us; they
are representing themselves and the devil that is
using them.
“If you know the pattern of their regime, the way
they move and the way they truncate the
activities that will be for the wellness of the poor
masses, you’ll know that some of them are
possessed and they need deliverance before they
enter that seat.”
He, however, said it was too early to assess
President Buhari and asked Nigerians to give the
Buhari government the chance to implement its
change agenda.
Praying for the liberation of Nigeria, the Catholic
clergyman said: “I pray that our authentic
emancipation, what we call change will be
supernaturally propelled because right now you
can see the hand writing everywhere, many
people are complaining of hunger but the hunger
is not Buhari engendered.
“Many are complaining that Buhari has not
started changing everything, Buhari is not a
magician.
“Like I used to tell people, somebody had been
cooking in the kitchen for six years and he did
not feed us well and just few months ago,
somebody entered the same kitchen and all of
us want him to cook a very wonderful delicious
soup whereby his water is still in the pot. He has
not started putting ingredients and people are
testing the water and saying he cannot cook
well. Let us give him a chance to pour the whole
ingredients into the pot and when he is done
with cooking, we can now judge him.
“It is too early to judge a man who has just
entered few months ago, remember, even the
budget is being attacked, padding or no padding
and some people want to baptise criminal
fraudulent machination with the name padding
as a non criminal offence. So, when you steal
money that is in billions, it is padding and that
one is a no offence?
“But catch a poor man that steals a phone of
N20, 000, he will be burnt alive.”

Student confesses to cheating in WASSCE, withdraws from UNILORIN

Authorities of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State on Sunday said that they had accepted the voluntary withdrawal of a student, Jephtaph Abolarin, from the institution.
Abolarin, a 300-Level Sociology student, had written to the university confessing to cheating during his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
Abolarin, who claimed he had become a ‘born again’ Christian, said continuing his university education, using an unmerited certificate was unjust and immoral.
He wrote the letter to the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Sidiqat Ijaiya, on August 5, 2016.
According to him, he wanted to withdraw from the school because he got his WASSCE through examination malpractice.
Reacting to the letter on Sunday, the university Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed the withdrawal of the student.
Akogun, who noted that the Senate of the university had accepted the withdrawal letter, added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, commended Abolarin for his repentance and sincerity.
The VC, Akogun added, wished Abolarin well in his future endeavour.
Part of Abolarin’s letter to the DVC read, “Just as a house that was built on a faulty foundation will surely collapse, it is also certain that a career that is built on a faulty foundation will definitely collapse. All through my secondary school days, I was just a church ‘goer’, without genuine salvation and the fear of God. As a result, I got my WASSCE result through examination malpractice.
“By the grace of God, now, I have encountered the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which called for repentance and restitution.
“Sir, with deep conviction, I have realised that there is no point building my academic career on a faulty foundation; since the WASSCE result I got through malpractice is the basis in which my admission into this university was anchored.
“Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from the university and start all over again.”

We Switch Off Generators So Owners Will Open Doors — Robbery Suspect

Police in Lagos have arrested two suspects who
specialise in switching off power generating sets
at midnight to gain easy entry into apartments
when the owners come out to inspect the cause
of power cut.
The suspects confessed to being responsible for
series of operations around Ikorodu area of the
state. However, one of them, Isaac Ogbonna,
blamed his resort to crime on his inability to
raise money for his ailing sister’s medical bill.
The 27-year-old Ogbonna, who lamented that his
business folded as a result of the economic
recession, said: “I could not stand and watch my
elder sister die. I have been living with her since
I came back from Enugu, after my business
folded up.
“She has been sick and I had donated blood
twice, yet the sickness persisted. At first we
brought in a nurse who treated her and collected
N9,000. But there was no improvement. We had
to take her to the hospital where we were told
to deposit N20,000.
“I approached one of my friends, Ishola Dede,
(pointing to his partner in crime), who assured
me that he would help me raise the money
because my sister had once shown him
kindness.
“He introduced me to two other persons, Ishola
and Sadiq, at a drinking joint. Our plan was to
attack any house that still has its power
generating set on after midnight.
“Last Monday, we stormed a house at Ogolonto;
we jumped the fence and put off the power
generating set. A man came out with a torch
light to inspect what was wrong and we pointed
a gun at him and followed him into his
apartment.
“We collected laptops, phones and N80,000. As
we were about leaving, Sadiq requested for the
car keys, but we told him to forget about it since
it was not part of the plan.
“Our plan was to raid about 10 houses. But he
insisted and went away with the car, saying the
amount would cover what we would get in 10
houses.
“Next day, he told us to meet at a hotel and that
he had sold the car, unknown to us policemen
had traced the car through the tracking device.
“Unfortunately, I was told this morning, after I
was arrested, that my sister died a day before.
All my efforts have been in vain.”

Lionel Messi this summer dyed his hair blonde,
to which many fans criticized him, with many
saying the hair style didn't fit him while some
fans argued that he was trying to be a
fashionista which he naturally isnt. But Messi,
currently on international duty with Argentina,
has explained the reason he decided to dye his
hair to blonde in an interview with famous
Argentine actor Mingo.
Mingo asked the Barcelona/Argentina star why
he decided to dye his hair blonde this summer
and Messi said;.
“I made a change to start from zero. A lot had
gone on, things had happened, and I said to
myself: “I have to break this and start again,'”.
On the Copa America final defeat, during which
Messi missed a penalty, he said
“It was how I felt in that moment. Everything
came crashing down.''
''I felt like that [final] was the one, given how the
team was and how we’d played in the
competition. It was a huge disappointment.”
